Bitcoin’s price spent 2026 retreating from its record highs. The number of people it has made wealthy did not follow the price down. A new Crypto Wealth Report, published September 8 by the advisory firm Henley & Partners, counts 92,272 bitcoin millionaires worldwide — individuals holding at least $1 million in bitcoin.

They sit inside a wider population of 135,694 crypto millionaires. Further up are 290 people holding $100 million or more in crypto, 151 of them in bitcoin, and 23 crypto billionaires — nine of whom are billionaires in bitcoin alone.

Where the weight sits

The report values the whole crypto market at about $2.6 trillion as of August 31, of which roughly $1.6 trillion — well over half — is bitcoin. For an asset class crowded with thousands of tokens, that concentration is the headline: at the top of the wealth pyramid, bitcoin is not one holding among many. It is most of the pile.

Counts like these are estimates, drawn from on-chain analysis and wealth intelligence rather than tax filings, and they rise and fall with the price. But the pattern they describe — serious money staying in bitcoin through a down year — is the point.

The adoption scoreboard

The report’s Crypto Adoption Index ranks 36 countries that offer residence or citizenship pathways on how well they embrace and regulate the asset. Singapore tops it for a fourth straight year. The United Arab Emirates is second, with a perfect score for tax-friendliness. Hong Kong is third. The United States is fourth — and the only country to score a perfect ten on public adoption.

The ranking is a portrait of where policy has made room for crypto wealth to settle: low-tax hubs and financial centers competing for the mobile rich. It is also, increasingly, a map of where bitcoin’s largest holders choose to live and bank.

Adoption is not the price

The report’s quiet argument is that the two numbers investors watch have come apart. Bitcoin fell from its highs this year, yet the count of people with real money in it held, and the jurisdictions courting them multiplied. Price is a mood; ownership is a base — and the base kept growing.

A down year for the price was not a down year for ownership.

Why it matters: the number of people with serious wealth in bitcoin is now large enough that governments compete to host them — a constituency a price dip does not erase.
